Blogmas Day 6: 15 CA Chains that should be in MN & 15 MN Chains that should be in CA
I lived in LA for 4 months in the spring of 2013. I really missed some of my mainstays from MN while I was there. However, when I returned, I had the opposite problem and missed some of the places I visited in LA. This is the list that I've narrowed down (note, not all of these chains stem from said state, there are just many of them)
Clothing and Apparel Brandy Melville This store has become hugely popular online and it is mostly with younger teenage girls (controversially selling small sizes that no one can realistically fit into). However, their accessories are something I wouldn't mind bringing some CA sunshine to the arctic here in MN.
Lorna Jane Although Athleta and Lululemon are popular in both states, Lorna Jane is an Australian workout clothing import that's much more budget friendly and more unique than those previously mentioned. Hoping this chain expands to our area soon.
TopShop TopShop is a British import that opened at the Grove shopping center while I was living in LA (dang you filmmaking class for making me miss a free Demi Lovato concert.....). Although TopShop clothing is available at Nordstrom's at the Mall of America, a freestanding store would be nice (hint hint)
Kitson The eclectic store that is known for celebrities being spotted going in and out of would be a great addition to Minnesota.
Ross Dress for Less Basically the cheaper and better version of TJ Maxx.
Other Store ChainsLucky Strike bowling The upscale bowling alley that really classes up the idea of a bowling alley would be a perfect place in for young adults to go in the middle of winter.
Fry’s Electronics AKA the coolest electronics store EVER. Just look at the front of it!
Rite Aid Kind of random, but we don't have any Rite Aid's here. Which I realized after getting a Rite Aid card and coming home and not being able to use it....
99 Cents Only Store MUCH better than the dollar store. Just don't eat any fruit (word from the wise).
Restaurants in and Out Burger Basically the most popular restaurant in the state. Besides Chik-Fil-A (which has finally reached the North)
Yogurtland One of the many Froyo places in LA. Wishing they were more popular here.
Sprinkles Cupcakes Same with cupcakes
Baskin Robbins They always have Baskin Robbins commercials but there aren't any here. WHY??
Marie Callenders Restaurant They sell the frozen Pot Pies but the restaurant is so much more.
Porto’s Bakery (technically Burbank) I went to this bakery in Burbank at least once a week to get a blueberry muffin. Best muffin ever.
15 Clothing/AccessoriesHeartbreaker An inexpensive clothing store for women that has many locations all over the Twin Cities.
DSW A great shoe store that carries many, many styles.
Charming Charlie Only the best jewelry store EVER. It's COlOR-COORDINATED.
OTHER CHAIN STORES
Costco The only place where buying 30 rolls of toilet paper at once seems normal.
Cub Foods Cub Foods is my local grocery chain. It's sad to say how much I missed this small piece of home.
Michaels Craft Supply This may be the midwesterner and Pinterest-addict in me, but where do Los Angelenos buy crafts?? WHERE??
The Container Store (they JUST put one in near where I lived on Fairfax Ave) Why was this built a block from my apartment a year AFTER I leave?
Lifetime Fitness My current place of employment, there was a lack of Lifetime Fitness's in LA while I was there.
RestaurantsCaribou Coffee/Bruegger's Bagels AKA Minnesota's "Starbucks" and our favorite bagel store (many of them are built next to each other)
Panera I really missed my soup bread bowl
Noodles and Company Same with my Wisconsin Mac and Cheese.
Perkins Restaurant I lived down the street from an IHop (this one actually, valet parking and all) but really nothing compares to the 2am muffins or pancakes with friends that always seems to happen at Perkins.
Dairy Queen Dairy Queen is basically on every block here in MN yet no where to be found in LA. ♫Where have all the Blizzards GONE and where are all the orange Julius's?♫
Famous Daves The best BBQ in MN. Fun Fact: Dave Anderson lives one town over from me.
